Scott and Melissa Powell founded New Leaf Custom Homes in 2006 with a clear conviction: that building a home should be as cohesive as the home itself. Today, New Leaf operates as a fully integrated design-build firm offering architecture, interior design, construction, furnishings, and pool design across Dallas and North Dallas.
In-house, New Leaf is supported by The Design Shop, their architecture and interior design firm, and Pools by Design, their pool design-build company. Together, they eliminate what the team calls the Building Bermuda Triangle: the costly, complicated experience of managing separate architects, designers, builders, and pool contractors who don't communicate. What kinds of projects or clients are you best suited for right now, and why?

We primarily design and build single-family luxury custom homes across Dallas and North Dallas. Our process is especially well suited for clients who want a seamless, fully integrated experience. With architecture, interior design, construction, furnishings, and pools all handled in-house, every element is aligned from the very beginning. This allows us to design and build homes with a cohesive vision, while simplifying the process for our clients and ensuring nothing is overlooked.

Where do you believe thoughtful investment makes the biggest difference in building a home?
A
Square footage is the primary driver of a home's overall investment. As the size of the home increases, so does the cost across every category, from structure to finishes to systems. Because of that, being intentional with how that space is designed is key. When scale is paired with thoughtful planning, the home not only makes a statement, but feels cohesive and well executed throughout, making it a thoughtful investment.

How do you balance design and building excellence with real-life constraints like budget and timeline?
A
Because architecture, interior design, construction, furnishings, and pools are all handled in-house, the process is naturally more efficient. Our clients are not managing separate teams or acting as the middleman between architect, builder, designer, and pool contractor. We call this the Building Bermuda Triangle. Instead, everything is aligned under one team, which allows us to move with clarity and intention at every stage and create a more enjoyable process for the client.
From the first sketch, our design team is informed by real-world costs, schedules, and execution, and our construction team is involved early to keep everything grounded. That collaboration allows us to pursue high design without losing sight of what matters most to our clients: a home that is both exceptional and achievable.
