How would you describe your design philosophy in your own words?
A
We believe the design process should be a fun and relaxed experience. We start by listening to the client's vision of their new home and asking questions about what they want, how they live, and what their priorities are. We then use our experience and expertise to sketch a variety of creative design options to meet the client's individual needs. After incorporating those needs and wants into the plan, the client will leave with a conceptual drawing of the home. Together we will have created a design reflecting the spirit of the client and the function of the space.
Collaboration is at the heart of everything that we do. We sketch and design with our clients. This process allows them to see the plan come to life in real time. This makes them an active part of the process, so they understand the thinking behind every choice and feel a genuine connection to the final result.

What kinds of projects or clients are you best suited for right now, and why?
A
Covert + Associates celebrates 40 years in business next year. This milestone we owe entirely to the trust and loyalty of our clients. That relationship is best illustrated by a client we just finished working with on their third custom home plan in 25 years. Every client is unique, and so is our approach. We do not believe in "one size fits all solutions." We listen and work with them to create a home that is entirely their own.
We also partner with custom home builders and individuals across North Texas and throughout the country to create plans tailored to their specific goals and needs. Rather than serving as an outside vendor, we function as an extension of our builders' teams. We work alongside them and their clients every step of the way.
Our in-house team handles everything from initial concept through final construction drawings, with efficiency and accuracy at the forefront. In 2025 alone, we completed over 100 new construction and renovation/addition projects. The result: plans that work in the field, resonate with buyers, and create lasting value for everyone involved.

How do you help clients navigate budget and timeline while still protecting the integrity of the design?

As the saying goes, "A house plan the client cannot afford is not a very good plan." It is a simple truth that shapes everything that we do.
Every project begins with an Initial Design Consultation focused on understanding the client's square footage needs, room count, and budget. As we develop the concept together, we help clients make informed decisions that align their vision with financial reality. When adjustments are required, we present clear options, walking through the pros and cons of any square footage changes so clients can confidently choose a direction that meets their goals without compromise.
This collaborative approach does not just produce better plans. It accelerates the entire process. By working directly in front of the client from the very beginning, we streamline decision making and get projects to the construction phase faster.
