Nikki Cramer
Interior Design
Full-service residential interiors in Dallas.
Sophisticated, functional, and quietly warm.
After thirty years of designing interiors across multiple market sectors, Nikki Cramer has learned that the most beautiful spaces are also the most useful ones. She approaches each project with a philosophy that bridges sophistication and livability, creating homes that feel both refined and effortlessly comfortable. Her work is marked by intention: every material, finish, and piece of furniture earns its place in the overall vision.
Cramer's design process begins with deep listening. She observes how her clients move through their homes, where everyday items naturally accumulate, and what matters most to their daily rhythms. This careful attention to real life informs every decision, from the placement of custom millwork to the curation of art collections. She believes great design is collaborative, with the client as the essential member of the team. Together, designer and homeowner develop a shared language, one that honors both the client's aspirations and Cramer's expertise.
Why Nikki Cramer Design is on our list
Nikki Cramer has spent thirty years designing across a wide range of projects, and it shows in how methodically she works. She does not start with a look. She starts by watching how a household actually moves through its rooms, where the mail lands, which corner goes unused and why. Those observations become the plan: where the millwork goes, how storage disappears, which sightline gets protected. The result is interiors that are quietly sophisticated and genuinely comfortable.
She is also, unusually, a team builder. Her strongest work comes from being in the room early with the architect, contractor, lighting designer, and landscape architect, so that every discipline speaks one design language from the first sketch. On a recent new build in Bluffview, that integration produced a home where architecture, interiors, lighting, and landscape read as a single idea. She looks for clients who want to be thoughtfully challenged, and she rewards their trust with work that is considered down to the last detail.
Q
Tell us who you are and what you stand for in your work.
A
With thirty years of professional design experience across multiple market sectors, I have developed a deep understanding of quality, functionality, and how spaces should support the people who live in them. My approach is rooted in listening carefully, collaborating closely, and delivering thoughtful solutions that reflect each client's lifestyle and aspirations.
I strive to create modern interiors that are sophisticated yet approachable, spaces that feel timeless, comfortable, and effortlessly livable. I believe great design is measured not only by its beauty, but by how well it serves its purpose. A successful design enhances everyday life, meets a client's unique needs, and brings lasting enjoyment.
My work is intentional and purposeful. Every design decision and every material, furnishing, and finish is carefully considered, resulting in interiors that are refined, cohesive, and free of unnecessary complexity. I draw inspiration from natural materials, beautiful surroundings, and the people I have the opportunity to work with.
“A successful design enhances everyday life and brings lasting enjoyment.”
Q
Tell us about a working relationship that felt exactly right. What made it work?
A
I am currently leading a comprehensive renovation for a wonderful family in Highland Park. While the wife serves as my primary point of contact, the entire family contributes thoughtfully to decisions involving their individual spaces, making the design process both collaborative and personal.
The project includes a reconfiguration of the upper level to add a new bedroom and bathroom, as well as the complete renovation of five existing bathrooms, the kitchen, and the garage bungalow. What makes this relationship exceptional is that the client is deeply engaged throughout the design process, carefully considering each decision while placing a great deal of trust in my guidance and expertise. That balance of involvement and confidence has been essential.
Equally important is our contractor. Their collaborative approach, attention to detail, and extensive experience have been instrumental in keeping the project organized, efficient, and on schedule. Together, the partnership between client, designer, and contractor has created a seamless process and a strong foundation for a successful outcome.
“The strongest projects are built by a cohesive design team, with the client as the most important member.”
Q
How do you design for the way a family actually lives, not just the way a home looks in photos?
A
Real life is at the heart of my design philosophy. I believe it is my responsibility to understand not only how my clients live, but also what matters most to them. By listening carefully and observing the rhythms of their daily lives, I can create spaces that are both highly functional and deeply personal.
I carefully study how clients move through their home each day and observe where everyday items naturally accumulate. Understanding these patterns of circulation and use allows me to anticipate their needs and design spaces that work intuitively for the way they live. These insights inform the placement of custom millwork, storage solutions, and architectural focal points, ensuring that every element is thoughtfully organized to enhance both function and the overall experience of the home.
At the same time, I enjoy introducing clients to new ideas, materials, and perspectives they may not have considered. Design is a collaborative journey, and together we create environments that authentically reflect who they are while enhancing the way they live.
“Understanding patterns of circulation and use allows me to design spaces that work intuitively for how clients actually live.”
Q
Tell us about one of your projects that really stuck with you.
A
A custom new construction home in Bluffview was a truly exceptional project. The home was thoughtfully designed across a sprawling site spanning two natural creeks. Having the opportunity to join the design team from the earliest stages of concept development made the experience especially rewarding and allowed every decision to be considered as part of a unified vision.
The collaborative team included the client, architect, contractor, lighting designer, landscape architect, and myself. This integrated approach resulted in a home where architecture, interiors, lighting, and landscape work seamlessly together.
The grand living room became the defining space of the home. A floor-to-ceiling glass corner overlooks the entrance, while soaring twenty-five-foot wood ceilings create a dramatic sense of scale. Carefully aligned sightlines frame intentional views throughout the property, and custom furnishings paired with a thoughtfully curated art collection complete a space that is both striking and inviting. When every discipline speaks the same design language from the beginning, the results are truly transformative.
